Step 8: Deploy Final Settings and Reboot
The Canaries' File Share don't currently support uploading a custom share if the File Share is empty. (This will be supported in future versions). If you have an empty File Share and want to upload a custom share, this KB describes how to do it.
Step 1: Add a Placeholder File to the Empty Share
-
Open the Canary settings and navigate to the Windows File Share section.
-
Right click on the root (empty) folder in the share.
-
Add a file with any name. (Note : you can remove it later.)
Step 2: Deploy Settings and Reboot the Canary
Deploy the new settings to the Canary and wait for it to reboot.
Step 3: Upload Your Custom File Share
- Once the Canary has rebooted with the new settings, open the Canary settings and navigate to the Windows File Share section.
- Now you'll be able to click on the "Upload custom file share" button and upload your custom files.
Note: While connected to the Canary share (when uploading your custom file share contents), if you don't want the file created in Step 1 you can remove it.
Step 4: Start the Upload Process
An informational panel is shown. Click "Begin".
Step 5: Map the Temporary File Share Drive
After a few seconds, a temporary Windows File Share is enabled on your Canary.
You are shown details to connect to your Canary. Switch to the Windows Explorer (or Finder on OS X), and map a network drive using the details below:
- Canary IP
- Share username
- Share password
Step 6: Add, Edit, or Delete Files and Folders
With the network drive mapped, use the drive to add, delete, and edit both files and folders. Once you've completed your changes, switch back to your browser and Canary console, and click "Done".
Step 7: Close the Writable File Share
Once "Done" is clicked, the Canary will disable the writable file share.
Note: The writeable file share is removed when you click "Done", however, if there are no changes done to the writable share after 20 minutes of enabling it, the Canary will disable the writeable file share and re-instate the configured file share with the previous contents.
Step 8: Deploy Final Settings and Reboot
Click "I'm ready to deploy!" to dismiss the modal. Your Canary will apply the new settings and reboot. Once your Canary comes back online, all your custom files and folders will be waiting for you in the configured file share.
You're done!
