This page describes how to enable the Auto Commission feature for a Flock.

What is Auto Commissioning?

All bird types (hardware, virtual, cloud, and container) have a final "Commission" step in their deployment, in which the Console handler must manually commission the device to mark it as expected.

The final commission step is a safety mechanism to ensure unexpected devices aren't able to pollute your console.

However, for Container Canaries, this is less than ideal since Container Canaries can be launched without any human interaction. So they can be configured to commission themselves, and we call this "Auto Commissioning". Currently, this is only supported in Docker birds.

Enabling Auto Commissioning

Auto Commissioning is enabled or disabled per Flock. To enable, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open your Flock settings

Login to your Console, and click on your Flock Panel:

Then click the settings icon:

Step 2: Toggle Auto Commission

Scroll down the settings to the Devices section and toggle "Enable Auto Commission"

Auto Commission is now enabled for this Flock.
